There are a couple of great websites to use for Current Events or to look/analyze the news.
1) www.newsela.com
Fantastic website! You can register (free) as a student/parent. This website allows you to print/read news articles at varying reading levels. On the right hand side, you can change the level of the article to reflect the reading level of your child. It will show you what grade the reading level is above each picture. Plus, it has access to quizzes based on an article.
2) www.teachingkidsnews.com
Another great website - has a variety of news articles geared for your child based on their interest level.
3) www.timeforkids.com
Great website - again, similar to teachingkidsnews.com.

ENVISION MATH
Click this link: http://www.pennsauken.net/5math/
This link coincides with our Enrichment Math Textbook that I use in class for the students. There is one video for every unit covered in class. This is a good introduction for students to review prior to beginning the lesson/unit. Daily Problem-Based Interactive Math Learning followed by Visual Learning strategies in this text deepen conceptual understanding by making meaningful connections for students and delivering strong, sequential visual/verbal connections through the Visual Learning Bridge in every lesson.

As a class, we have been using a program called, Bitstrips! Bitstrips for Schools empowers students to make and share great comics without drawing a line, and lets teachers unlock the educational power of comics! Students have been working on creating comics around all subject areas - learning skills development, book covers, comics of persuasion, Remembrance Day etc.

UPDATE (As of September 24th 2013)
Parents, just want to inform you that we will have access to the school laptops, which we will be able to use in our classroom. We do not recommend that students bring in their personal laptops (for safety reasons, and carrying them back and forth). We are also given additional computer time in the Library to accomodate. **It is recommended that your child have a USB Key accessible to them to save any incomplete work done at school.**
